The Basics of Showing Model Horses For
Beginning Showers |
1. When the store is open, find a table that will be your “base” for the show. Keep your area neat and put all empty boxes under the table or take them back out to your car.
2. Make sure that all of your horses are 100% clean. Make sure all of your horses have an ID tag, made out according to the show’s rules and regulations.
3. When a class is called, take the horse or horses that you plan to enter in that class up to the tables that are being used as the show ring. Find a spot for your horse and be sure that its best side is facing the table (the horse should be parallel to the edge of the table).
4. Be considerate of other exhibitors. Put horses close together to make room for everyone’s horses, but don’t put your horse so that it is in front of someone else’s.
5. Don’t crowd around the table while the judge is working on a class.
6. If you need to ask the judge a question, approach her in between classes when she’s not busy.
7. The show will move quickly. Pay attention to announcements and have your entries ready to go up to the ring when their classes are called.
8. If you are showing Performance, have your entries tacked up and ready to set up. Make sure your tack is fitted properly. You should have a card explaining exactly what your horse is doing in his class.
9. DO NOT RUN in the show area. Many of the models will be quite valuable, some are irreplaceable, and you will be responsible for any damages that you cause.
10. DO NOT PICK UP ANY ONE ELSE’S MODEL without their permission.
11. CHILDREN MUST BE SUPERVISED AT ALL TIMES.
12. In general, for Halter classes, the judge will consider the following factors: condition of the model, conformation and breed characteristics, correctness and quality of color/markings, quality of mold and finish, presentation, and personal preference. In performance classes, the judge will consider many things in addition to the horse itself, including suitability of the horse to the event, correctness of tack, authenticity of the props used, and the accuracy of the entry (including the information given on the explanation card), attention to detail, and presentation.
13. HAVE FUN!! |
